These spacers are necessary,
tiny
&
easily lost
The purpose of the needle valve spacer is to hold the needle valve in its proper position in the chamber. It also protects the top surface of the valve which is brass from the bottom steel edge of the flame control fulcrum (#28) which exerts constant pressure on the valve from above.
The dunhill lighter schematics show 2 spacers on the needle valve shaft while most lighters you take apart only have one.
When would you need 2 spacers on your needle valve
? You most likely need 2 spacers when your lighter:
1. Keeps
leaking from the needle valve o-ring (#35)
despite placing new o-rings.
2. The
gas flow coming from the needle valve is uncontrollable
despite maximum turning of the gas control valve clockwise.
Symptoms that you
might have one too many spacers
on the needle valve:
1. leaking from the tip of the needle valve because the valve sits too low and the snuffer in the lid does not fully depress the needle valve plunger.
2. The gas control valve protrudes way past flush with the bottom of the lighter.
My spacers are made from
stainless steel
and will not rust or corrode like the original.
I find lighters usually need only one of these new spacers
IF your Rollagas leaks and you have NOT replaced the seals
you must check out one of my service kits! Replacing spacers when you have old seals will not stop the leak!
